New players always welcome.
This weekend Ed City played in two outdoor tournaments in what can only be described as the best weather this side of the Carribean! On Saturday the St Andrews Beach Tournament was held on the West Sands Beach with 19 teams participating (3 from City). Thanks to everyone who came and joined in, it was great fun and hopefully the weather will be as good next year! A social kindly organised by Duncan and Sara in Dunfermline for their wedding was a welcome respite from the running around in the sand during the day by then dancing the night away.
Sunday morning saw two teams (in no way the worse for wear) enter the Inaugural Dundee Tournament held at Dawsons Park. The weather was even nicer and the astroturf at least kinder on the running compared to sand and after a fun day with lots of tight games City 1 came out on top as Tournament winners with City 2 in second place having only lost to City 1. Again thanks to those who came and we hope you all had a good time. now that we have got our first cup of the season its time to go to Stockholm and get our next one!
Thanks to both St Andrews and Dundee for organising two great events and we cant wait to be back next year.
Lastly from everyone who could make it we want to thank the new Mr And Mrs Stewart for a wonderful night and we hope they enjoy their honeymoon!!!
End of Season Finale
Unfortunately thats it for another year! With last weekends final matches played the season has come to a close. This year the League was won by St Andrews Uni 1. City 1 came 2nd a few points behind and City 2 finished in 8th position. Overall a very good season and thanks to everyone who played for both teams. The scoring table has been updated (its missing a few development games so apologies for that) but the league goals have all been accounted for.
For City 1 the top scorers were Erik and Clive with Josh a few behind, Erik was in 2nd place in the league for Male MVPs. Lee G was the top female scorer followed by Ali, Laura and Lizzie in joint second spot.
For City 2 the top scorer was Neil closely followed by Stephen, Josh and Duncan. Miriam was the leagues joint 5th Female MVP (only one nomination away from joint 2nd!!!) and Laura P was the highest Female Scorer followed by Lynn and Lucy in joint 2nd place.
Well done to everyone who played and we hope everyone enjoyed the SKA AGM social.
We now have a few tournaments coming up in St Andrews (fun on the beach!) with three teams entered and two teams for Dundee followed by Stockholm in June. Hopefuly we can add another tournament later in the summer as well and we will keep you posted on this

Firsts vs Dundee and Ed Uni 4
Edinburgh City were happy to welcome Dundee as the newest club to enter the league, and another expansion team in Edinburgh Uni 4. Both opponents are development teams, who play the same fixtures but whose results don’t count in the main league table as they don’t have to meet the same eligibility criteria as the full members. Still, they are still games that City want to win, and for half a game against Dundee that didn’t seem that certain.
Whether it was the change of hall or change of ball, City were unable to shoot accurately enough in the first half, and soon began losing collects too. Defence was strong, but at half-time the lead was only one. A couple of substitutions provided a different challenge for Dundee, but the managed to stick in the game throughout and only lost by a narrow 7-3 margin.
The second match was against a team of very new but very athletic students. Often this is the sort of match that we struggle in, but this time the attacks moved smoothly, managing to overcome the early loss of Erik to an ankle injury. Ed Uni 4 managed to cause some problems in attack when they were allowed to shoot, and kept their heads admirably as the goals against column rose.
vs Dundee 7-3

vs Ed Uni 4 19-4

Start Of Season
The 2011-2012 Scottish League season started this weekend, with a record 12 teams, including Dundee’s first ever club. Edinburgh City have 2 teams, as last season, but the presence of 12 guys at today’s match – 4 starting, 4 subs and 4 coaches! – suggests the prospect of a third team is achievable.
On the court, the team began with a 6-1 win over St Andrews 2, a comfortable win over inexperienced opponents, but one which the team didn’t quite gel as it should have. But in the second game, the team performed superbly against a very strong Edinburgh Uni 1 side, showing great patience in possession and doing excellent work to disrupt the students passing patterns. At half-time it was 5-2, and although chances were fewer in the second half, the defence continued to be very strong. A 9-2 defeat is a strong result against potential title winners, and a significant improvement over last year’s 8-33 combined scoreline.
Special mentions to Dale Cooper and Steve Alderson, who both made their first appearances for the club, and Miriam Wilson who played her first ever competitive games.
vs St Andrews 2 6-1

vs Edinburgh Uni 1 2-9

City come 5th in Europa Cup 1st Round
Ed City travelled to Slovakia for the Europa Cup qualifying, for the first time since 2007. With the top 2 teams from 6 qualifying for the tournament proper, City were hopeful they could compete for that but were a significantly weaker side than the one that won the Scottish league with Angus Davidson and Lizzie Brough injured, Erik Rustenburg and Rich Allan unavailable, and Karen McClymont having moved to Glasgow. In particular, these absences meant the squad was short of numbers, with only 10 players available, while other teams had squads of 16. This proved crucial as City were often unable to sustain a high level of performance as they tired. Against ZEMUN Beograd , it was 10-9 to the Serbians with 11 minutes to go, against FJEP Bonson we trailed 3-4 with 2 minutes to go before half-time, against the hosts SKK Dolphins Prievidza it was only 5-2 at half-time. Yet each game finished with our opponents as clear winners.
Edinburgh City did manage to win against the Italian champions, Padova, and competed hard throughout. The experience and teamwork gained from the weekend will prove very useful for the season ahead too.
